The Save More Automotive Story

The Howard Family

Owner Cory Howard with wife Sarah and son Wyatt

From the Owner, Cory Howard:
It all started in a tiny one bay shop on the corner of Francis & Nevada in Spokane, WA.  He had no equipment and only $3,000.00 to his name.  But he had a passion for cars and a desire to help people.  My dad, Ron Howard started Save More Automotive in 1990 in that shop on that corner.  I remember spending almost every weekend there.  He would let me take engines and cars apart (knowing I wouldn’t be able to put them back together).  I got into things I wasn’t supposed to, I lost his tools, and I got dirty, really dirty!  I was 4 years old.  My dad’s shop is where I learned my love for tools, nuts & bolts, and all things automotive.  It’s where I was crafted into the man I am today.

Fast forward:  After 20+ years as a local business owner my dad’s shop was still going strong.  His customers loved him.  I went to work for Dad after high school in the summer of 2005.  In 2011 I had the same passion as my father to own my own auto repair shop.
I started my business in Coeur d’Alene, ID and after 1 very successful year I was offered a deal I couldn’t refuse to sell the CDA shop.  My plan was to come back to Spokane and take over Dad’s shop so he could retire.
Just Weeks after selling my shop in CDA I got a terrible phone call.  The worst phone call of my life.  My dad was in an ambulance on his way to Sacred Heart Hospital.  He suffered a major heart attack while playing bass on stage with his rock n’ roll cover band.  He collapsed.  His heart stopped.  And after an EMT that just so happened to be in the crowd revived him, he was not conscious.  I never got to talk to my dad again.  After coming out of his coma it was confirmed he was in a vegetative state and didn’t survive much longer.  There was no warning.  It completely blindsided our family.  I never got the chance to have the one last conversation I wish I could have had.
His business went to his estate and I was not able to save it.  We were forced to close down in April of 2012 and I went to work for a Toyota Dealership.  After 2 great years working for Parker Toyota I decided it was time to carry on Dad’s legacy.  My 4 year old son, Wyatt, and I found a shop located at 2605 N Hamilton St and with his approval: “Dad, I love it!” I signed the lease.  I didn’t have much money, I didn’t have investors backing me, and I start all over at ground zero just like my dad did back in 1990.  But, I do have the passion and ability to offer an exceptional service to the city of Spokane.  I’m an ASE Certified Master Technician with 20+ of experience stemming from my days as a kid in Dad’s repair shop.  With the the honesty, integrity, and drive passed down from my father I will follow in his footsteps to build back up a business that I can someday pass down to my son.
Carrying on In Loving Memory of Ron Howard
